Battle of the Chefs

Award-winning chefs from across our collection of properties come together to share their signature dishes in the ultimate culinary competition.

Join us for a unique opportunity to enjoy delicious dishes from three award-winning chefs in one evening. Each of our talented chefs will create two courses championing their signature style and guests will then be invited to vote for their preferred course to crown their favourite chef!

Our first evening takes place at Gidleigh Park on 1st November, where Executive Chef Chris Simpson will be joined by Will Guthrie of Buckland Manor and Michael Nizzero of The Bath Priory. Experience Chris’ deep-rooted, classical cooking style, the flavour and balance of Will’s modern British dishes and Michael’s elegant French-inspired dishes that each epitomise the best seasonal dining. You can also join these chefs on 27th February, as Michael Nizzero will host a further Battle of the Chefs at The Bath Priory.

Or, savour a delicious six-course tasting menu at The Slaughter’s Manor House on 15th November as Executive Chefs Nik Chappell, Paul Peters and Catalin Jauca showcase their favourite dishes and techniques.

Nik, Head Chef at The Slaughters Manor House for four years, enjoys a reputation for creating exciting and expertly executed fine dining menus. He will play host to Paul of Amberley Castle, whose innovative dishes utilise simple, quality ingredients to excellent effect as well as Catalin of ABode Canterbury, whose outstanding modern European cuisine has been recognised with three AA Rosettes. You can also join Nik, Paul and Catalin in the stunning South Downs countryside as a Battle of the Chefs takes place at Amberley Castle on 29th November.

Each event starts at 7.30pm for dinner at 8.00pm and includes:

  • Arrival drink with canapés

  • A six-course dinner with three matched wines

  • Coffee & petit fours

We are delighted to announce that The Bath Priory has just been made a member of the Relais & Châteaux collection, becoming the only hotel in the city to be part of the luxury group! Featuring only the very best hotels worldwide, to become a Relais & Châteaux hotel each member hotel must not only display the very highest standards of hospitality and service, but also welcome guests with warmth and personality.

The Bath Priory is the only new UK member to be chosen to join the prestigious collection this year, a testament to every member of the excellent team at the hotel.

We are thrilled that The Bath Priory now joins Gidleigh Park, Buckland Manor and Amberley Castle as a member of Relais & Châteaux, four of only 31 members in the UK.

The arrival of peacock chicks at Amberley Castle

The patter of tiny feet at Amberley Castle as resident peacocks Bob & Lilly become proud parents to four chicks.

The team at Amberley Castle is celebrating, following sharing news of the arrival of four brand new peacock chicks, offspring of Amberley’s resident pair Bob and Lilly.  Born at the start of July, the chicks are all doing well and are fast becoming the staff’s favourite pastime, checking up on their progress and ensuring they are the most pampered guests at the castle.

Amberley's General Manager Piers said, “We only discovered Lilly was expecting, when assistant gardener Gregg went to seek her out, after a period of quiet where we hadn’t seen her in a while.  Hidden away in the garden, it was only when she chose to stretch her legs that Gregg could take a look at the nest to discover she was sitting on four eggs.  Then, the team endured what felt like forever, as we waited for them to hatch, with two first to arrive and the second two following two days later”.

Piers continues, “All four are doing brilliantly – I can’t claim you’ll get as friendly a welcome from the chicks as from our staff, but we love having them here and are looking forward to them growing and blossoming.  Their parents are known to be partial to the crumbs from afternoon tea, and I have no doubt, this will be a trait passed on to their offspring – given half the chance and once courageous enough to explore"!
